I’ve become tired of hearing people saying big girls (and even guys) can not amount to anything. These people are clearly ignorant on the subject. Instead of sitting here bashing someone for their size, maybe you should be doing something with your lives. Clearly, these amazing people are able to do what they love and guess what they get to enjoy that triple chocolate sundae with extra whip cream on top. They are plenty of more great plus sized people out there who have achieved many things and there are many more who will in the future. So instead of discouraging people for their bodies, let them know that they are beautiful and help them feel good about being who they are. Everyone deserves to be happy, being who they are.
I love all of these beautiful women, but we should also be LISTENING TO WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY, rather than just throwing their pictures up as inspiration porn. Amber Riley talks about the YEARS where she was only offered the part of the sad fat sidekick who eats all the time before she landed Glee (where - surprise! - one of her only main story arcs was about fucking tater tots). Rebel Wilson’s most lauded performance thus far is a character called “Fat Amy,” and Melissa McCarthy’s characters are CONSTANT punchlines about fatness. Queen Latifah chose to lose weight due to health concerns, and all people can say is “She LOOKS so much better!” Same with Adele: she lost weight because she was SICK, and people just laud the illness induced weight loss, rather than being happy she’s recovered. Meanwhile, Joan Cusack told Gabourey Sidibe, “Oh honey, you should really quit the business. It’s so image-conscious.”
Just wanna add in that Rebel Wilson also lost weight due to an illness, and people’s reaction to her wasn’t “you poor thing are you ok” (I think it was malaria) but “oh wow! you lost weight you look so good now!”.
